Manchester Super Giants have been arguably the hottest team in the men’s Hundred down the stretch and come into the final having won their last four games. The most recent of those victories came against SunRisers Leeds in the Eliminator, as Paul Walter smashed 80 from 46 balls to help Manchester accumulate 186/4 batting first at the Kia Oval. That proved to be enough as Leeds could only manage 166/7 in response, England fast bowler Josh Tongue taking four wickets for the Super Giants.
Trent Rockets were the best team across the group stage, winning six of eight games, including a six-wicket triumph over Manchester at Emirates Old Trafford. Their six victories were bookended by defeats, most recently by an eliminated Southern Brave, although not much can be read into that with the Rockets already through.
The biggest worry for the Rockets is that they are facing a team powered by momentum, with key players finding form at the right time and enough power to handle what has been difficult batting conditions at Lord’s. Manchester boasts an excellent homegrown pace bowling trio in Tongue, Gus Atkinson and Sonny Baker whilst Noor Ahmad and Liam Dawson provide the spin mix.
Sam Billings is an excellent captain and it’s hard to back against him making it four from four men’s Hundred triumphs personally. But if anyone can stop Trent Rockets, it’s this Manchester side and at even money, the value move is to back the Super Giants.
