Denis Shapovalov continued his progress in Los Cabos as he defeated Tristan Schoolkate in straight sets to reach the last four. The Canadian went 3-1 down early on but regrouped quickly to win the next four games to seal the set. He then broke the Schoolkate serve straight away in set two as he won 6-3 6-2.
He will now take on Adam Walton for a place in the final. Walton defeated fellow Aussie James Duckworth in three sets to advance to the semis. He struggled at times, going a set and a break down to Duckworth, but Walton created more opportunities as the match wore on and forced a decider. Duckworth looked to gain the upper hand in the third set as he went 3-0 up, but Walton broke twice in succession to win 3-6 6-3 6-4.
Shapovalov leads the head-to-head 1-0, having beaten Walton 6-3 6-2 in the second-round of Indian Wells earlier this year. The Canadian has been largely untroubled so far in this tournament and we don’t see that changing in this match.
