Daniel Altmaier advanced to the next stage after beating Mitchell Krueger 6-4 6-3 in the first-round. The German was way down on his first serve percentage, only managing 45%, but conversely still won 85% of those points. He made a poor start to the match as he was broken early and went 3-1 down but he broke back on two occasions to take the first set and largely controlled the second.
His opponent in the next round of the tournament will be Tristan Schoolkate as he came from a set down to beat Yibling Wu. The Australian was just two games away from defeat but crucially broke Wu’s serve at the end of the second set and dominated the third to win 4-6 6-4 6-1.
The higher ranked Altmaier will need to put in an improved serving performance ahead of this match against Schoolkate but he should still be viewed as the favourite to get the job done.
