Luis Francischinelli: The Brazilian KO artist looks to add another highlight to his reel
Heavy-handed finisher, Luis Francischinelli (6-1) has built a name for himself as a dangerous KO artist under the LFA banner. Standing 6'6" tall with an 83" reach, the towering Brazilian has scored all six of his professional wins by knockout. In addition to a piston-like straight right, Francischinelli has excellent knees and a diverse kicking arsenal, working all levels of the body with spiteful shots. His primary Achilles' heel looks to be in the grappling department; Francischinelli was held down and submitted in his sole pro loss to date, raising questions as to how he will handle a sustained grappling attack.
William Rentz: Can "Iron" produce the upset and steal Francischinelli's thunder?
Training under UFC veteran, Billy Quarantillo, William Rentz (8-2), rides a five fight win streak into his Contender Series audition. "Iron" has solid power and decent striking, but does his best work in the grappling department, leveraging excellent takedowns and mat returns to ground his opponents and punish them with nasty GNP until he finds a finish. The 27 year old American has fought most of his career in CFFC and boasts a 100% finish rate, although he has also been stopped in brutal fashion by regional level opposition.
Luis Francischinelli vs William Rentz prediction
This looks like a showcase for Francischinelli to find a brutal finish.
For starters, Rentz has been fighting abysmal levels of competition on the regional circuit. He looked solid in his last fight, earning a 25 second KO over the 7-2-1, Nick McCarty, but in the two fights prior to that, scored wins over fighters with records of 9-27 and 1-7 respectively. He only has two wins over opponents with winning records and suffered a first round KO loss in the only other bout that he faced one.
Francischinelli has also been finished on the regional circuit, but he’s been consistently fighting solid levels of competition in a decent promotion like LFA; his loss came by submission in the third round against the 10-3 Jonathan Piersma. He’s a really sharp striker with legitimate one-shot KO power proven against decent opponents and has a ridiculous size advantage, standing a full 6” taller than Rentz.
Rentz has power of his own and could conceivably outwrestle the Brazilian, but I put considerably more stock in the level of opponent that Francischinelli has been beating. I believe this one ends early, with the Brazilian blasting Rentz with a straight right for a highlight reel KO.
Prediction: Luis Francischinelli to win by first round KO
