Douglas da Lapa: "Robozinha" looks to score another brutal finish

Undefeated Brazilian, Douglas Da Lapa (6-0), arrives on the Contender Series with five finishes and just a single victory by decision. Tall for the weight class at 6’3”, “Robozinha” has fought his last two bouts in LFA after beginning his career on the South American regional circuit, scoring back-to-back second round TKOs to earn a spot on this year’s audition roster. He’s a technical striker with good volume and thudding power, working all levels of the body well; Da Lapa also has demonstrated some crippling leg kicks.

Davi Cabral: Can "Young Lion" overcome a considerable size disadvantage?

Perfect across seven bouts as a pro, Davi Cabral (7-0) looks to maintain his undefeated record and earn a UFC contract. “Young Lion” is a little undersized for middleweight at 5’9”, but he hasn’t let that slow him down to date, earning finishes in all but one of his seven wins. The Brazilian is also a solid striker with a crisp jab and snappy kicks, balancing his kickboxing with an serviceable grappling game and good takedowns. However, while he looks to be a decent prospect on paper, his resume doesn’t hold up brilliantly to closer examination.

Douglas da Lapa vs Davi Cabral prediction

Cabral might be entering this fight as a fellow undefeated prospect, but I think that there’s a strong chance he’s going to get starched here.

Not only does Da Lapa have the more impressive strength of schedule, he’s got a borderline comical size advantage here, with a 6” edge in height. “Robozinha” has really nasty leg kicks, looks to be considerably better on the feet and has even demonstrated some fairly solid wrestling chops throughout his career to date. He’s also scored two wins in LFA, a solid regional level promotion.

By contrast, Cabral has been fighting complete tomato cans on the regional circuit; he’s only one fight removed from taking a 10-8 fighter to a split decision, and that was only the second time that he’s actually managed to beat an opponent with a winning record. Throw in the size differential and it’s difficult to envision a path to victory for him here.

I envision Da Lapa taking a round to settle in and establish his distance before “Robozinha” eventually finds a TKO somewhere in the second round.

Prediction: Douglas da Lapa to win by TKO
