THE TEAM NEWS

CENTRAL STAGS

  • Central Stags are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Super Smash table, although will find themselves leapfrogged by their opponents here should they fall to defeat at McLean Park.
  • The Stags are coming off the back of a humbling 47-run loss at the hands of Canterbury Kings after being bowled out for just 125 chasing 173 and a significantly stronger performance in all departments will be required against the Volts.

OTAGO VOLTS

  • Otago Volts finally brought to an end their seven-game Super Smash losing streak dating back to last season’s tournament by beating Northern Brave by three wickets in a thriller last Sunday.
  • Neil Broom played a massive hand for the Volts with his 62 breaking the back of their 147-run chase, whilst both Josh Finnie and Michael Rippon shone with the ball.

THE PREDICTION

Central Stags may be the league leaders, but it remains to be seen how much their defeat against the Kings has affected them from a confidence perspective. Momentum can be a huge factor in T20 cricket and heading into this match, the momentum is with the Otago Volts squad, who are riding the crest of wave following their win over Northern Brave. For them to get over the line in such a tight contest will have done wonders for them going forward and as you see so often following a losing streak, one win can bring two straight after. Therefore, the shrewd move may well be backing Otago Volts to edge this one.
