THE LOWDOWN

MULTAN SULTANS

  • Multan Sultans have not only the PSL trophy on their minds heading into this final, but also revenge against the home team, who beat them comfortably in last year’s final at the same venue.
  • After finishing second-place in the league stage, the Sultans booked their place in Saturday’s showpiece event by thrashing Lahore in the qualifier, bowling them out for just 76 to win by 84 runs.

LAHORE QALANDARS

  • It took up until the second eliminator for Lahore Qalandars to do something they haven’t done yet in the 2023 PSL, win a match when batting second, a huge boost for them psychologically heading into this final.
  • Chasing 172 to beat Peshawar Zalmi, Lahore reached their victory target with seven balls to spare and four wickets in hand, setting up this final encounter with Multan.

THE PREDICTION

Lahore Qalandars’ biggest weakness was always going to be if they lost the toss and were put in to bat against Peshawar Zalmi, but having passed that test, it puts them in an excellent position going into the final. These two teams have faced off three times now across the tournament, Lahore winning both group games, before Multan Sultans overcame them comprehensively in the qualifier. Expect a significantly improved batting display by the Qalandars compared to what they showed in that disastrous qualifier, but Lahore having such a brilliant bowling attack may well prove decisive in a big final, as it turned out to be back in 2022. Factor in what will be a red-hot home crowd and it makes Lahore Qalandars the side worth backing to secure back-to-back PSL titles.
