THE TEAM NEWS

IRELAND

  • In a match reduced to 12 overs aside due to the inclement weather, Ireland’s poor start batting first ultimately cost them, as they could only accrue 108/4 from their 12 overs after being reduced to 6/2 early on, a target comfortably chased down by the tourists.
  • Ireland’s innings was underpinned by Harry Tector’s 64 not out batting at number and the hosts will need a more significant contribution from the top three if they are to threaten India more significantly in the second match.
  • Conor Olphert made his debut, but there was no place available in the side for North West Warriors Stephen Doheny, who will be hoping for an opportunity here.

INDIA

  • India reached their victory target of 109 with 16 balls remaining on Sunday with an unbeaten 47 from Deepak Hooda opening the batting anchoring the successful chase.
  • Hooda opened due to a calf problem for Ruturaj Gaikwad, although he was named in India’s starting line-up and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit to play in this one
  • Fast bowler Umran Malik made his India debut, bowling only one over due to the rain reduced affair and he’ll be looking for a more significant contribution on Tuesday.

THE PREDICTION

As was the case in the first T20i, India are highly likely to dominate with both bat and ball and with Ireland’s influential opener Paul Stirling out of form, the tourists will fancy themselves to once again pick up a couple of early scalps when they bowl. Most importantly though is that India’s batters should not only have more than enough firepower at the top of the order, but also more than enough strength-in-depth to deal with whatever the Irish bowling attack throws at them. Back India to not only win this second T20i, but also to accrue the highest 1st 6 overs score.
