Camilo Ugo Carabelli got off to a winning start in Bastad as he defeated Cristian Garin in straight sets. The Argentine was broken when serving for the match, but duly broke Garin’s serve in the very next game to win 6-4 6-4. He ended his five match losing run and picked up his first victory on tour since the Hamburg Open in late May.
Botic van de Zandschulp will be his next opponent. The Dutchman easily defeated wildcard Mikael Ymer 6-4 6-1. This match was played over two days due to bad weather, but Van de Zandschulp completely dominated proceedings once they resumed, winning eight of the last nine games.
Ugo Carabelli is more suited to clay and will be delighted to get back into the winners’ circle after his period of poor form. We expect him to continue his resurgence and get past Van de Zandschulp to make his first-quarter-final since the Turin Open two months ago on the Challenger Tour.
