Arthur Cazaux defeated home favourite Jerome Kym in three sets to make the semi-finals in Gstaad. The Frenchman raced into a 3-0 lead in the third set but allowed Kym back into the contest, as he broke back. Nevertheless, Cazaux earned the all-important break deep in the decider to win 7-6 3-6 7-5. He’s into a semi-final of a tournament for the first time this season.
He will go up against second seed Alexander Bublik in the last four. Bublik continued his serene progress with another straight sets win against Francisco Comesana. The French Open quarter-finalist did not lose serve and won 76% of his first serve points as he defeated the Argentinian 6-4 6-3.
This is their first meeting on clay, but Bublik won their previous encounter at Wimbledon last year in straight sets. The Kazakhstani is the highest ranked player left in the draw by a considerable distance and will be eyeing up his third title of the season and his second on the ATP Tour. He’s been very solid so far on serve and will be a heavy favourite to advance in this one.
