FIFA 19 eSports – News Round-Up

In our weekly round-up here at The Stats Zone, we look at the biggest talking points currently within the FIFA eSports scene. These may range from player transfers, online/offline tournament announcements, tournament results and more.

TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Last weekend saw the conclusion of numerous domestic leagues as players from across the world secured the title of champion in their respective countries. The first domestic tournament that came to an end was the Australian E-League. After nine rounds of league play, the finals brought some serious shocks to the table. After being the Premiers following regular league play, Melbourne Victory didn’t make it to the console finals of the competition, with all three of their players eliminated in the quarter and semi-final stages. In the end, the grand final saw FUTWIZ Marko of Sydney FC take on Marcus Gomes of Melbourne City FC. In an incredibly tight finale, it was Marko who triumphed, putting on a defensive clinic to hold his nerve and win 1-0 on aggregate to crown himself and Sydney FC Australian E-League champions.

The Virtual Bundesliga came to a close at the weekend and mirroring the results of the league campaign, it was MegaBit and Werder Bremen who tasted glory in Berlin. It was an all Werder affair in the grand final as MegaBit took on his teammate MoAuba after they had previously teamed together to comfortably top the league table at the end of the season. It was the Gfinity FIFA Series February grand finalist who came out on top, defeating MoAuba 8-5 on aggregate to lift the Virtual Bundesliga trophy.

Also decided at the weekend was the outcome of the Virtual LaLiga eSports Santander. Eight players competed in Madrid in a bid to be crowned Spanish champion and in the end only one came out on top. That player was Jaime Alvarez of Dux Gaming. The Spaniard known in the FIFA eSports scene as ‘Gravesen’ thrashed Zidane10 of Las Palmas 8-1 in the grand final to take home €40,000 and a precious 850 Global Series points.

The final two Global Series domestic competitions that came to an end this weekend were the eLiga Portugal and the Saudi Arabian eLeague. The Portugese competition was won by SC Braga led by HugoBoss and Gouvy. Unsurprisingly in Saudi Arabia it was Msdossary who ruled the roost. The reigning FIFA eWorld Cup champion brought home the trophy for his club Ittihad, alongside teammate Rakan.

ELSEWHERE

This weekend sees the final licensed event qualifier of the season take place in Bucharest. The PGL FIFA 19 Masters will be the second LQE of the month and the last chance for many players to secure the Global Series points they need to see them qualify for next month’s Global Series Playoffs. The prize pool consists of over $30,000 with 6,820 Global Series points also up for grabs.
