FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME
- Felix Auger-Aliassime is the youngest player ranked in the ATP top 100 at world number 21 and he did well to keep his nerve after going down a set to win in four over fellow Canadian Vasek Pospisil.
- The 18-year-old will have an even larger buzz around him at this year’s Wimbledon after the early exits of other next generation stars Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev in the first round.
- Auger-Aliassime has now played 41 matches this year and reached two finals and a semi in his last three tournaments, two of those on grass; a final in Stuttgart and the last four at Queen’s.
CORENTIN MOUTET
- Corentin Moutet is at a career-high 84 in the world right now and being touted as one of France’s best young hopes, but even at 20 years old he will be the senior here.
- The Frenchman put in a very mature performance in his five-set win over Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, coming back from two sets down to win.
- Moutet will face Felix Auger-Aliassime for the first time professionally but has previously lost to the Canadian at a Challenger event last year in Lyon.
THE PREDICTION
Felix Auger-Aliassime beat the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Milos Raonic in his grass court preparations and it looks as if the occasion of a final may be his biggest obstacle right now, having lost three this year. In that case, these early rounds at Wimbledon should see him the favourite, barring he doesn’t come up against an elite player. Corentin Moutet looks like a future top-end player, but he should come unstuck against the Canadian starlet here.
