- Sussex Sharks were hugely disappointing in the 2018 Royal London One-Day Cup winning just two of their eight matches and they will be hoping to challenge towards the top of the South Group as they kick off the new campaign here.
- They have decided to leave out Ollie Robinson and Stiaan van Zyl to rest them but Harry Finch does make the squad after recovering from a hand injury for the side led by captain Ben Brown.
- They will be hoping for big contributions from Phil Salt, Luke Wright and Laurie Evans at the top of the order, while there is a heavy reliance on Chris Jordan and David Wiese with the ball especially with Robinson out.

- Surrey were stunned in their opening match against Gloucestershire on Wednesday as after managing to restrict to the hosts to just 235, they collapsed in dramatic fashion and were bowled out for just 88 so they will have to make a major improvement following that 147-run loss.
- They have named the same 14-man squad for this match and Conor McKerr, Freddie van den Bergh and Jamie Smith may have to wait on the sidelines once again if they name an unchanged side to face Sussex.
- Their big name batting order will have to improve significantly and they will be in the spotlight in front of the Sky cameras in this day/night game as they remain without the injured Scott Borthwick, Jade Dernbach, Jordan Clark, Matthew Dunn and Amar Virdi, while Sam Curran is away at the IPL.
THE PREDICTION
Surrey have one of the best teams in terms of star power and big names yet they come off a humiliating defeat against Gloucestershire in Bristol. Their bowling unit cannot carry any of the blame, but the likes of Stoneman, Roy, Burns, Pope and Foakes all need to shrug that embarrassment off quickly and demonstrate their international credentials. Sussex have a strong batting line-up themselves but are a little under strength in terms of bowling. That said, Jordan and Wiese will test the Surrey batsmen once again. Surrey should have the edge on paper as they surely cannot be as poor as they were on Wednesday but it is difficult to have much confidence in them, and Sussex have plenty of quality to expose them once again if they are not on their game.
