THE TEAM NEWS

LANCASHIRE

Coach: Glen Chapple

Captain: Dane Vilas

  • Lancashire come into this new campaign determined to improve on last season’s disappointing performance in this competition as they finished sixth in the North Group with just three wins from eight matches.

  • They made an excellent start to the County Championship by comfortably beating Middlesex and their big-name overseas signing Glenn Maxwell was the key man with the ball and they will be looking for him to make a big impact in this tournament to warm up for the World Cup.

  • Liam Livingstone is away at the IPL while Alex Davies is ruled out with a finger injury sustained against Middlesex while Richard Gleeson, Danny Lamb and Toby Lester are all missing but they can count on some key men like Jimmy Anderson, Keaton Jennings and Matt Parkinson to lead them.

WORCESTERSHIRE

Coach: Alex Gidman

Captain: Brett D’Oliveira

  • Worcestershire come into this new season with high hopes in the shorter formats of the game after reaching the semi-finals of this competition and winning the T20 Blast, and they gained some confidence in the County Championship by easing past Leicestershire in their opening match.

  • Riki Wessels, Hamish Rutherford and Wayne Parnell will all make their first appearances in the One-Day Cup for the club and all three players will be looking to make major impacts for them and add some real strength to the side.

  • Captain Joe Leach remains unavailable due to injury so Brett D’Oliveira deputises for him and Moeen Ali is away at the IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore but they have plenty of strength and depth with the likes of Ben Cox, Ross Whiteley, Ed Barnard and last season’s T20 Blast revelation Pat Brown.

THE PREDICTION

This is one of the tougher games to predict in the opening round of matches as both sides have plenty of quality in their ranks. Despite Lancs being without the likes of Livingstone and Davies, and Worcester missing Leach and Moeen Ali, there is plenty of quality on show. The Rapids were superb in the white-ball formats last season and they can continue that by making an early statement here and beating Lancs on their own turf.
