Aoi Ito vs Tereza Valentova prediction
Despite being the top seed, Aoi Ito was knocked out in the first-round of a WTA 125k event in Porto last week. She lost heavily, 6-1 6-1 to compatriot Himemo Sakatsume. This would have been a disappointment for Ito, especially after her run to the final of W50 in Corrois-Seixal a week earlier, ending a nine-match losing run which stretched all the way back to the end of April. Ito does have a title this season, but that was right at the start of the year in early January when she won the Canberra International.
There were contrasting fortunes in Porto as though Ito failed to make it past round one, Tereza Valentova went on to win the title without a drop of a set. She now has back-to-back victories on the ITF circuit and she has four tournament victories during this year already. The 18-year-old is fast approaching the top 100 of the world rankings and will fancy her chances of a deep run in Prague this week.
There’s little to separate these two youngsters in terms of their ranking, but Valentova will be high on confidence after such a fine run of form. We lean towards her getting the job done.
