Anna Kalinskaya lost in the second-round of Wimbledon to Clara Tauson last time out. It’s been an injury hit season for the Russian and she’s now down to 48 in the world rankings. She must hope there’s an improvement as she returns to hard court for the American summer swing. Kalinskaya’s best result of the season so far came on this surface, as she reached the semi-finals of the Singapore Open before having to retire during her match with Ann Li.
Kamilla Rakhimova was knocked out in round three of Wimbledon. The Russian had reached the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne International just a week earlier, and carried some of that form on, but she was on the end of a tight loss to Linda Noskova. Rakhimova has kept the momentum going however, qualifying for the main draw of Washington after two straight set victories.
Rakhimova already has a couple of wins this week and her recent form overall has been pretty impressive. Her strong serve and positive net play could cause Kalinskaya some problems. This might end up going to a third set.
