Andrey Rublev wasn’t at his best but still cruised into the quarter-finals with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Juan Alejandro Hernandez. The Russian wasn’t broken and won 92% of his first serve points, however he did commit six double faults and produced a few too many unforced errors. Rublev remains a huge favourite to claim his second title of the season this week.
Emilio Nava will be his opponent in the quarters. The American staged a miraculous escape to defeat Yunchaokete Bu in three dramatic sets. Nava was 6-2 down in the deciding tiebreak but saved four match points and reeled off six straight points to seal a 3-6 7-5 7-6 victory. The American showed tremendous fighting spirit to come back from the brink and will be hopeful of causing Rublev a few problems.
Nevertheless, Rublev is likely to improve after his first hard court match in months, and he will be expected to reach the semi-finals with another straight sets victory.
