Andrey Rublev overcame a huge scare to beat Emilio Nava and make the last four of the Los Cabos Open. It was a poor performance from the Russian, who looked to be heading out of the tournament after going a set and 4-2 down, but he managed to break the Nava serve in back-to-back service games to take the second set. The former world number five then broke again at the start of the third to win 5-7 6-4 6-3.
Aleksander Kovacevic will be his semi-final opponent. Kovacevic made it through after easily beating Juan Pablo Ficovich 6-3 6-1. The American won 81% of his first serve points and apart from a blip at the start of the first set, he was always in control.
He also leads the head-to-head against Rublev 1-0, having beaten the Russian 7-5 6-4 in the semi-finals of the Montpellier Open earlier this year. Rublev has looked unconvincing so far in the tournament and will need to raise his game if he is to reach his third final of the year.
