Aleksander Kovacevic produced a strong fightback to defeat top seed Andrey Rublev for the second time and reach his second final of the year. The American lost the first set but broke at the start of the second and began to consistently put pressure on Rublev's service games. He threatened to break earlier in the decider but managed to do so late on, winning 3-6 6-4 6-4.
He now goes up against Denis Shapovalov. Shapovalov continued his comfortable progress at the event, winning in straight sets for the third consecutive match. He broke Adam Walton’s serve on four separate occasions as he wrapped up a 6-2 6-2 win. He’s dropped just 12 service games overall and his game has looked in good shape.
Shapovalov will be a clear favourite to win a second title this season after his victory in Dallas earlier in the year. He’s minimised the errors this week and another attacking display could see him win in straight sets once again.
