Adam Walton cruised to the quarter-finals after thrashing Nishesh Basavareddy 6-1 6-0 to register his first victory against the American. He won nearly 80% of his points on first serve and was in complete control of the match from start to finish. He now faces fellow Aussie James Duckworth for a place in the semi-finals.
Duckworth picked up a fine win in the round-of-16 as he defeated second seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets. The Spaniard had beaten Duckworth just last month in Eastbourne, but the 33-year-old raced into a 5-0 lead in the first set and never looked back.
Neither player has dropped a set so far in the tournament, but Walton has looked a bit more secure on serve, with Duckworth’s first serve percentage totalling just 43% in his last match. This could prove to be a close encounter, but we give the edge to Walton, who was incredibly dominant against Basavareddy.
