Tomas Machac could not be coming into Indian Wells in better spirits having won his first-ever singles ATP Tour title in Acapulco, Mexico. The 24-year-old Czech talent beat some good quality opponents like Jakub Mensik and Brandon Nakashima before overcome Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the final.

His record in this event has been pretty underwhelming by the standards he has been setting as he has only ever reached the second round. He will be targeting a better performance this time around for sure.

He meets qualifier Yosuke Watanuki who has already played three matches to reach this stage. The 26-year-old is ranked 349 in the world but he has produced some great tennis to win his matches so far. In the first round, he came through a three-setter with Alexander Bublik and his confidence is sky high right now.

This will be a completely different test for him however. Machac is in good form and even if he starts slowly, he should still have too much quality for the qualifier.
