THE PREDICTION

World number 15 Taylor Fritz received a bye to the round of 16 as the third seed this week in Munich but he could probably have done with an extra round’s practice on clay after a poor start to the swing. The 26-year-old is an excellent all-court threat at his best but he was dismissed in straight sets by an impressive Lorenzo Musetti in the first round of the Monte-Carlo Open last week to bring a very concerning three-match losing streak into Munich, in keeping with a past few months overall. 23-year-old Alejandro Moro Canas claimed his first ever tour-level win on Monday, becoming the latest player to upset an ailing Dominic Thiem, and he will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 218th for his efforts. The Spaniard qualified well to earn his place at the Munich Open but despite Fritz’ recent woes this should be several leagues too steep of a challenge for Canas. Back Fritz to win outright or consider a risky one-off for Canas, with all the momentum, to snatch a set on momentum.

TIP: TAYLOR FRITZ TO WIN
