THE PREDICTION
World number 97 Thanasi Kokkinakis finally won the first ATP title of his injury-ravaged career in his home city of Adelaide at the start of the season. The 25-year-old took that winning feeling through to the Australian Open doubles where he partnered friend and compatriot Nick Kyrgios to a most unlikely Grand Slam title as part of the famous/infamous ‘Special Ks’. With that partnership rolling on to California this campaign it remains to be seen if Kokkinakis can transfer that momentum into his singles campaign at Indian Wells as he takes a two-match streak into this immediate rematch with Sebastian Korda. World number 38 Korda beat Kokkinakis in the first round of the Delray Beach Open last month but eh too has lost back-to-back matches since against Cam Norrie and Dusan Lajovic to throw some uncertainty here.
21-year-old Korda should realistically be coming through this clash in straight sets but this could be a proper late-night thriller that could reach the distance late on Thursday night. Taking Korda as the outright winner seems a reasonable compromise.
