THE PREDICTION

World number 34 Maxime Cressy received a bye to the round of 16 of the Tel Aviv Open as the fourth seed here as he seeks a first win on tour in over a month. The 25-year-old won his maiden ATP titles at the Hall Of Fame Open in July during a grass season that thoroughly suited his serve-and-volley tactics but he has managed back-to-back wins just once on tour since transitioning to hardcourts. 22-year-old Sebastian Korda beat Cem Ilkel in straight set son Tuesday for a solid enough start to his Tel Aviv Open campaign after reaching the quarter-finals of the Moselle Open last week. The world number 44 has been difficult to pin down this season but wins over Lorenzo Musetti and Hugo Gaston last week in Metz were encouraging signs that he could be ready to make a last push for better tennis in 2022. This first meeting with Cressy should be fascinating but it is hard to predict which versions of either player will turn up to court. Given his more recent level, and with a match in his legs already, back Korda to win at least a set here to leave the winner up to chance.
