THE PREDICTION

World number 24 Roberto Bautista Agut reached the round of 16 at the Australian Open this season after a strong start to 2023 but he has since struggled quite concerningly on tour to bring a poor 11-13 record into Roland-Garros. The 34-year-old reached the round of 16 here in back-to-back seasons in 2016 and 2017 but his best run at a Grand Slam by far came at Wimbledon in 2019, when he took the first set from eventual champion Novak Djokovic before defeat in the semi-finals. 23-year-old Yibing Wu set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 54th this week after a run to the quarter-finals at the Geneva Open increased his stock on clay. The Chinese number one claimed his maiden ATP title at the Dallas Open back in February but after a choppy transition to clay he has won three of his last five matches on the surface to look competitive in this first meeting with RBA.

Wu was forced to retire from his most recent match against Alexander Zverev in Geneva and whilst it was likely precautionary this match is well worth leaving out of an accumulator. Otherwise, back Wu to earn at least a set as the likelier to start fast and leave the victor up to chance.
