THE PREDICTION
World number 56 Elisabetta Cocciaretto brings a three-match losing streak into Rome but she won the quality Charleston Challenger in mid-March. The 23-year-old won her maiden WTA title at the Lausanne Ladies Open last summer, not long after stunning Petra Kvitova in the first round of Roland-Garros, to further prove her credentials on her favoured clay and she will be backed to the hilt as one of many hopeful Italians vying for attention in the first round. World number 103 Renata Zarazua is at her best on clay but she has struggled to move inside the top 100 long enough to establish more of a foothold on tour. The Mexican qualified well this week to earn her debut in Rome but this should be too steep of a challenger against Cocciaretto, who can blow off some cobwebs here backed by a partisan crowd.
TIP: ELISABETTA COCCIARETTO TO WIN
