THE PREDICTION
This is an enormous opportunity for world number 16 Tommy Paul and number 24 Nicolas Jarry to reach their first Masters final, with both players rebounding on some recent poor form to become surprising semi-finalists. 27-year-old Paul has endured the much tougher schedule so far, ousting defending champion Daniil Medvedev in blistering straight sets on Tuesday before a brilliant three-set victory over Hubert Hurkacz, but Jarry’s three-set comeback over Monte-Carlo champion Stefanos Tsitsipas is an excellent result in these conditions.
28-year-old Jarry has laboured through much of 2024, in contrast to by far his best season last year with two clay titles picked up in Santiago and Geneva, but he grabbed a similar upset over Carlos Alcaraz at the Buenos Aires Open back in February to prove his credentials on his favoured clay. The Chilean came back from a set down to beat Tommy Paul in the second round of Roland-Garros last summer, en-route to the round of 16, but this should be an even tighter clash with their respective form a little closer together.
Paul has put in the more convincing performances this fortnight but Jarry is hard to put away when he finds some confidence. Back the American to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
TIP: TOMMY PAUL TO WIN A SET
