THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Sara Sorribes Tormo enjoyed a fabulous fortnight on home clay in Madrid, moving back inside the top 50 on tour after reaching the round of 16 in singles and up to 17th in doubles after winning the title alongside last-minute partner Cristina Bucsa. Sorribes Tormo is at her best on clay but wins over Elina Svitolina and Victoria Azarenka came as surprises in Madrid after a spell of drab form, with a round of 16 exit to eventual champion Iga Swiatek suggesting she could be one to watch in Rome. World number 61 Nadia Podoroska is also at her best in these conditions but she has endured a tough road back from a year-long injury and she has yet to really rediscover the level that saw her make the semi-finals at Roland-Garros in 2020. Sorribes Tormo won their only previous encounter in straight sets back in 2021 but this first match on clay is essentially a clean slate. Back the Spaniard to come through outright.

TIP: SARA SORRIBES TORMO TO WIN
