THE PREDICTION

World number 68 Max Purcell and number 86 Marton Fucsovics will meet for the first time on tour here on Wednesday in one of the tougher matches to call of the first round. 32-year-old Fuscovics’ renowned physicality should aid him in the challenging conditions here in Florida but 25-year-old Purcell enjoyed the best tennis of his career on the August Masters double in Cincinnati and Toronto to bring some pedigree into the draw. The Aussie brings a 4-8 record into Miami after losing each of his last three matches but Fucsovics missed Indian Wells through injury to bring a similarly poor 3-5 record of his own, although wins over Jan-Lennard Struff and Fabian Marozsan so far tis year were encouraging. Three sets seem likelier than two so back the Hungarian to earn at least one given Purcell’s losing streak – although the wisest thing to do is leave this head-scratcher out of an accumulator.

TIP: MARTON FUCSOVICS TO WIN A SET
