THE PREDICTION

World number two Aryna Sabalenka produced a serving clinic on Wednesday to beat Coco Gauff handily, facing no break points in a statement 6-4, 6-0 victory. The newly-crowned Australian Open champion has only lost one match this season, to Barbora Krejcikova at the Dubai Masters, and she avenged that in the round of 16 by beating the Czech in three sets. World number seven Maria Sakkari finished runner-up to Iga Swiatek here last season and she has battled tooth-and-nail so far to try and emulate that this year. The 27-year-old came back from a set down to overcome Petra Kvitova on Wednesday, her fourth three-set tussle this campaign, to back-up an excellent result over Karolina Pliskova. This should be a fascinating eighth meeting between the two top 10 stars, with Sakkari winning each of their last two meetings at the WTA Finals last season at Fort Worth and the season before in Guadalajara. Similar conditions here suggest the Greek can squeak through but Sabalenka still leads their head-to-head record 4-3 and there is little doubt that she is in the form of her career so far. Back Sabalenka to edge through here although it could be worth splitting your options, taking Sabalenka to win in straight sets or Sakkari to win in three.
