THE PREDICTION

World number 73 Marcos Giron is in better form than his current ranking suggests but a straight-sets defeat to Michael Mmoh at the Mexican Open was not in the script. The 29-year-old has reached three quarter-finals at ATP 250 level this season and taken sets from Taylor Fritz and Cam Norrie in competitive defeats to suggest he should have more than enough in this first meeting with Aleksandar Kovacevic. 24-year-old Kovacevic set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 107th this week after receiving a wildcard to make his Masters debut at Indian Wells but a surprise run to the semi-finals of the Korea Open late last year on his tour debut is proof of what he can do with the right draw. Back Giron to come through the outright winner here all the same but three sets seem likelier than two.
