MADISON KEYS
27-year-old Madison Keys set a career-high WTA world ranking of 29th back in 2016 and she finished runner-up to Sloane Stephens in the US Open final a year later. The current world number 29 raced back up the rankings after a stellar run to the semi-finals of this year’s Australian Open on a winning streak from a first title since 2019 in Adelaide. Amongst her six WTA titles is a Masters 1000 trophy from the 2019 Cincinnati Open.
MISAKI DOI
World number 95 Misaki Doi came back from a set down to beat Anastasia Potapova on Wednesday to snap a four-match losing streak stretching from the semi-finals of Adelaide 1 back in January. The 30-year-old has exited the competition at this stage in each of her last two appearances, most recently in straight sets against Sorana Cirstea last October.
THE PREDICTION
This looks a fairly straightforward win for Madison Keys if she can rediscover her searing Australian Open intensity. The American will be backed to the hilt by a raucous late-night crowd that gets the best out of her and she leads Misaki Doi 4-1 in their head-to-head record at tour level. Realistically this should be a straight-sets affair for Keys but backing her to win outright would be a suitably cautious concession considering Keys is riding a three-match losing streak.
