This should be a robust first meeting between world number 59 Mackenzie McDonald and number 48 Marton Fucsovics with both players performing well in parts so far this season. 26-year-old McDonald shocked Aslan Karatsev in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships late last month before losing to eventual champion Andrey Rublev in three sets in the quarter-finals. 30-year-old Fucsovics came close to shocking Denis Shapovalov at the same tournament in a three-set defeat but the Hungarian did reach the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open the week before. Three sets seems likely here between two players well accustomed to playing deciders and, based on his more recent form, backing California’s own McDonald to win at least one of them looks the sensible move.
