THE PREDICTION
World number 70 Luca Van Assche needs a win here to have any chance of qualifying for the semi-finals after a 1-1 record for the week so far, beating Abedallah Shelbayh in four sets and then losing to Hamad Medjedovic by the same score on Wednesday. The 19-year-old is the second seed this week but significantly lower-ranked than his compatriot Arthur Fils at the top and he would also much prefer to ply his trade on his favoured clay than the hardcourts of Jeddah. World number 97 Alex Michelsen excelled on grass in his tour debut, reaching the Newport Open final in July, but he has lost both matches this week in quite surprising circumstances. A gruelling five-setter against Medjedovic may have affected his showing against Shelbayh but having little to play for but pride here certainly favours Van Assche. Back the Frenchman to win.
