THE PREDICTION

28-year-old Lorenzo Sonego looks set for an intriguing week at Monte-Carlo after enjoying a double bounce into the second round as a lucky loser, replacing the injured Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian lost in three sets to Roberto Bautista Agut in qualifying, after coming back from a set down to oust David Goffin, but he is a confidence player who should be eager to make the most of this second wind momentum against Felix Auger-Aliassime – whose own confidence is significantly brittle these days. World number 35 Auger-Aliassime beat Luca Nardi in straight sets on Monday to avoid an early upset but the Canadian, who set a career-high of sixth after a remarkable 2022, has rarely impressed on clay. Sonego is currently ranked at 61st but he is capable of much better tennis than that suggests, particularly on clay. Back the Italian to earn at least a set as the likelier to edge through.

TIP: LORENZO SONEGO TO WIN A SET
