World number 55 Katerina Siniakova is yet to win a tour-level singles match this season but she has been unlucky in the draws, with her last four defeats coming to Coco Gauff, Anett Kontaveit, Garbine Muguruza and Jessica Pegula. The 25-year-old has enjoyed huge success in the doubles, though, with a win at the start of the year in Melbourne alongside Bernarda Pera backed up with a fourth Grand Slam title won alongside Barbora Krejcikova at the Australian Open. The Czech faces a much better prospect at a first tour win here against world number 72 Irina-Camelia Begu but the Romanian is no pushover – with a recent run to the St. Petersburg Open semi-finals proof of that. 31-year-old Begu reached the third round here last October via a surprise win over Jil Teichmann and she should not be underestimated. Take Siniakova to win at least a set here as the likelier of two very capable winners.
