THE PREDICTION

19-year-old Linda Noskova came back from a set down to upset seventh seed Maria Sakkari on Tuesday, backing-up a solid opener over Bernarda Pera. The teenager will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 26th for her efforts so far as she builds on a breakthrough into the top 30 after last month’s incredible run to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, where she stunned Iga Swiatek to announce herself as one to watch this year.

Former world number one Karolina Pliskova takes a seven-match winning streak into this first encounter with her fellow Czech after coping fabulously well with a ridiculous 24-hour turnaround from winning her 17th WTA title in Romanian on Sunday and starting her campaign here on Monday. The 31-year-old has needed three sets to edge past two tough foes in Anna Kalinskaya and Anastasia Potapova so far and there are signs that that her imperious serve is struggling a little, perhaps due to some understandable fatigue. Given that Pliskova has dropped sets in each of her matches so far, take Noskova to earn at least one from this first encounter to leave the victor up to chance.
