23-year-old Sebastian Baez brings a career-high ATP world ranking of 19th into the Monte-Carlo Open and he should be considered a dark horse for a deep run after winning two titles on clay already this year. The Argentine claimed his most prestigious of six ATP titles in Rio in February and won back-to-back trophies for the second time in less than a year with victory in Santiago but he takes a two-match losing streak to Monaco after an early exit in Miami. World number 26 Jan-Lennard Struff came agonisingly close to winning the Madrid Masters this time last season, taking a set from a peak Carlos Alcaraz after sneaking through qualifying as a lucky loser. The robust German is an excellent all-courter with a fierce game for clay but he has laboured to his recent victories to suggest a fit and firing Baez should edge this likely thriller.
