THE PREDICTION
Two-time defending champion Iga Swiatek started her campaign as top seed in familiarly bullish style, conceding just two games to Sorana Cirstea on Monday. The 22-year-old was stunned by Linda Noskova in the third round of a truly madcap Australian Open lats month but she became the 10th woman to reach 90 weeks at world number one this week and she should prove herself very worthy of that place over the next few months; typically when she starts to hit her top gear.
World number 19 Ekaterina Alexandrova needed three sets to oust up-and-coming Erika Andreeva on Tuesday, backing-up a solid opener over Viktoriya Tomova, but this should be too steep of a test against Swiatek. The Russian has, notably, taken at least a set from each of their three encounters after a fierce battle at the Madrid Masters last summer but Swiatek leads their head-to-head 2-1 to look the solid favourite to come through. Swiatek should take this in straight sets, for the first time in this match-up, but the suitably cautious call given their previous results is an outright win.
TIP: IGA SWIATEK TO WIN
