THE PREDICTION

World number one Iga Swiatek beat Madison Keys 6-1 6-3 for the second time this month, albeit one round earlier this time, to reach the semi-finals of the Italian Open. The 22-year-old completed her set of prestigious clay titles with victory over defending Madrid Open champion Aryna Sabalenka, in a remarkable final two weeks ago, and she looks the overwhelming favourite to back it up this weekend in Rome, where she was champion back-to-back in 2021 and 2022.

World number three Coco Gauff passed a very significant test on Tuesday with a straight-sets victory over Qinwen Zheng, more than doubling her first serve percentage from her previous round to suggest she is attempting to solve the issue. The 20-year-old has served 41 double faults this fortnight to look far too out of form to combat Swiatek in their 11th encounter on tour but this will be an intriguing clash nonetheless as she gears up for a tilt at Roland-Garros, where she finished runner-up to the Pole in 2022.

Swiatek leads their storied but one-sided head-to-head 9-1, claiming all of her nine victories in straight sets including their first ever meeting at this very stage in Rome three years ago. Back her to maintain that record, and her 10-match winning streak, in straight sets here.

TIP: IGA SWIATEK TO WIN 2-0
