THE PREDICTION

World number 25 Grigor Dimitrov beat Gijs Brouwer in straight sets on Thursday for a solid start to his Open 13 campaign and a run to the semi-finals of the Rotterdam Open last week was an encouraging one as he continues to seek a first ATP title since his most prestigious came at the 2017 ATP Finals. The former world number three is too good a player to simply fade away on tour but his erratic form makes backing him to stitch enough wins together difficult and this is a tricky tie in indoors conditions against world number 50 Alexander Bublik. 25-year-old Bublik snapped a 10-match losing streak on Monday with a comeback victory over Filip Krajinovic and a straight-sets victory over Gregoire Barrere on Wednesday looked like confidence returning, particularly as Barrere has knocked him out of the Montpellier Open as defending champion two weeks ago. The pair share a 2-2 head-to-head record but Dimitrov has won each of their last two encounters to suggest he has worked out a way to win against the maverick Kazakh’s kamikaze tennis. Back Dimitrov to edge things outright here but leave this match between two of the more unpredictable players on tor well away from any accumulators.
