THE PREDICTION

This promises to be a fun rematch between former world number six Gael Monfils and Jordan Thompson, who took the first set the Frenchman before defeat at the Monte-Carlo Open two weeks ago. 37-year-old Monfils quickly lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the following match before this week’s three-set exit to Marton Fucsovics in Estoril, whilst Thompson reached the quarter-finals on clay in Houston before losing to Frances Tiafoe on Friday. 29-year-old Thompson will enter Monte-Carlo at a career-high ATP world ranking of 32nd after finally winning his maiden ATP title at Los Cabos in February but a long trip over the Atlantic could sell him a little short against Monfils, who will be backed to the hilt as home-from-home hopeful in Monaco. Neither player particularly enjoys the clay but back Monfils to better enjoy the conditions to edge through.

TIP: GAEL MONFILS TO WIN
