Serbia’s current number two and three, world number 40 Filip Krajinovic and number 44 Dusan Lajovic, played as a doubles pairing here at Indian Wells last October as well as several other tournaments over the last few seasons. The pair are in a similar area in their respective careers as players well capable of the occasional big result whilst more often than not exiting tournaments earlier than their abilities suggest they should. They share a 1-1 head-to-head record but have not faced each other since 2015 at the Miami Open and, to add more uncertainty to the mix, both of their meetings have been settled by a retirement in the match. That makes for one of the most difficult calls in some time. On players beaten this season it looks like Lajovic has the edge here, especially after an excellent victory over Sebastian Korda at the recent Mexican Open, but Krajinovic feels like the safer pair of hands. This is well worth excluding from an accumulator but taking Krajinovic to win at least a set is probably the sensible move.
