This should be a fiercely contested first encounter between two up-and-coming 22-year-olds. Emma Navarro set a career-high WTA world ranking of 26th this week after beating Elise Mertens to the Hobart International title, with some incredible work over the past six months culminating in a first trophy to start 2024 off perfectly. World number 60 Xiyu Wang won her maiden title only recently, upsetting top seed Magda Linette in the Guangzhou Open in late September, and she reached the semi-finals at the Auckland Classic last week with some battling performances. It remains to be seen how Navarro copes with the emotional release of winning her title on Saturday but a five-match winning streak is some serious momentum to take to a likely three-setter. Back the American to win a set as the likelier of two very capable victors.
