THE PREDICTION

This promises to be one of the best matches of the round on Saturday between former world number two Paula Badosa and world number seven Elena Rybakina. 25-year-old Badosa claimed the biggest WTA title of her career at Indian Wells back in 2021 and Rybakina matched that effort last Sunday with a superb straight-sets victory over in-form Aryna Sabalenka, although the Kazakh’s greatest achievement to date remains her incredible run to the Wimbledon title last summer. Badosa scraped through a proper battle with Laura Siegemund in three sets on Thursday but the Spaniard will be pleased with her efforts after a tough start to 2023. 23-year-old Rybakina also needed three sets to beat Anna Kalinskaya on Thursday but it was an impressive start considering the pressure that winning Indian Wells puts on a player’s Miami campaign. The ‘Sunshine Double’ is a rare achievement on both tours but Rybakina is certainly capable of it. Back the Kazakh to win in straight sets here.
