EKATERINA ALEXANDROVA VS MAGDA LINETTE PREDICTION
29-year-old Ekaterina Alexandrova set a career-high WTA world ranking of 15th after enjoying her deepest run to the semi-finals of the Miami Masters in March, where she upset both world number one Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula before defeat to eventual champion Danielle Collins. The Russian struggled immediately afterwards, though, either with the sudden transition to clay or the disappointment of coming so close – or indeed a mixture of the two – but she snapped a four-match losing streak with victory over Cristina Bucsa on Monday.
World number 50 Magda Linette grabbed an eye-catching opener over Sorana Cirstea on Monday to back-up recent excellent performances on clay, particular in three highly competitive defeats to Sloane Stephens, Aryna Sabalenka and Victoria Azarenka. The 32-year-old finished runner-up to Stephens at the Rouen Open in her last outing on French clay but what looked like a reasonable upset in this match-up should be tougher now that Alexandrova has snapped her streak.
The pair share a 2-2 head-to-head record to suggest this will come close but Linette has earned at least a set in each of their last two, including in defeat to Alexandrova in Adelaide back in January, to offer a suitable way to avoid the result.
