THE PREDICTION
Dominic Stricker and Flavio Cobolli will know plenty about each other’s games as former doubles partners at junior level, finishing runner-up at Roland-Garros in 2019 and winning the title a season later, but this first encounter in singles should veer quickly towards the Swiss. The 21-year-old is currently six places behind his career-high ATP world ranking of 88th set in early October after a hugely impressive run to the round of 16 at the US Open was ended by Taylor Fritz, two rounds after stunning Stefanos Tsitsipas. Stricker only recently added another top 10 win to his name with victory over Casper Ruud at the Swiss Indoors last month to look the outside favourite, behind top seed Arthur Fils, to win this week in Jeddah. World number 100 Flavio Cobolli, also 21, has enjoyed some strong work on the Challenger circuit in recent months but his best tennis has come on clay so far. Back Stricker to better enjoy the conditions in Jeddah to come through the outright winner, probably in four sets.
