THE PREDICTION
World number eight Daria Kasatkina blew off the cobwebs on Thursday, coming back from a set down to ultimately blast past Jil Teichmann. The 25-year-old is the top seed in Abu Dhabi but she came in with low expectations after early exits at Adelaide 1 and the Australian Open and particularly an odd capitulation in the Adelaide 2 final, losing comfortably to Belinda Bencic. This is a seriously tough draw, though, against world number 29 Qinwen Zheng. The 20-year-old rising star upset in-form Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets on Wednesday, impressively taking their opening set tiebreak 12-10. A first meeting between the two leaves more questions than answers but at this moment in time the Chinese youngster seems the more dependable performer and perhaps the shrewd move is backing Zheng to win at least a set even if she ends up losing in the end.
