THE PREDICTION
Group F is still wide open for both Croatia and the Netherlands, with this a straight-out tussle for the quarter-finals. A 2-1 victory for either nation should be enough to go through but if Croatia scrape the tie here not even Norway are out of the picture with all nations tied on 3-3 and difficult permutations make these matches terribly hard to predict. Both world number 23 Tallon Griekspoor and number 37 Borna Coric lost their men’s matches to Casper Ruud this week, leaving this opener a potentially thrilling battle, whilst Donna Vekic looks too much for the Netherlands’ Arantxa Rus in the second clash – heaping further pressure on Griekspoor.
27-year-old Coric beat Griekspoor in straight sets on clay at the Hamburg Open in 2022 but the Dutchman has improved exponentially since then and he brings the better hardcourt form into this second meeting. Back the 26-year-old to earn at least a set here, with Coric playing only his second match back on tour since an injury lay-off suffered at the US Open in late August.
TIP: TALLON GRIEKSPOOR TO WIN A SET
