World number 81 Clara Burel reached her first WTA tour final last season at the Lausanne Ladies Open on clay but she has the game for hardcourts, with slow conditions at Indian Wells possibly favouring her here. The 20-year-old has just one win on tour this season, though, and she will likely play a sideshow to 25-year-old Anhelina Kalinina in the crowd’s support for the two. Kalinina is playing her first tournament since the invasion of her homeland, Ukraine, and we have already seen the physical and emotional response in her compatriots Elina Svitolina and Dayana Yastremska on court. Backing the world number 50 to win at least a set looks the likelier way this tough one falls but it would be well worth leaving this match out of an accumulator.
